Ich armer Mensch, ich armer Sünder
Steh hier vor Gottes Agesicht.
Ach Gott, ach Gott, verfahr gelinder
Und geh nicht mit mir ins Gericht!
Erbarme dich, erbarme dich,
Gott, mein Erbarmer, über mich!

Chorale from Bach's Cantata 179

It all sounds a little old fashioned in the here-and-now --- the buildings that pierce the sky, the robots orbiting other planets, the control we have over the very atomic building blocks of our universe, the knowledge we have of our own genetic construction...To the men and women of just 250 years ago, we would be gods.

As far as I know, despite all that we CAN do today, we can't stop people from dying....how does that make us gods?
